Gender in Conflict and Conflict Transformation
Gender-specific dimensions, effects and challenges

For the last ten years, academic research and policy discourses have shown how much violent conflict and their transformation potentials are both influenced and based on specific roles and stereotypes of women and men and power hierarchies among them. It has become clear that without taking the gender-specific dimensions of conflicts into account, the analysis of conflicts and conflict transformation policies will be distorted, one-sided, if not altogether misleading and false.
While referring to illustrative and concrete case studies, the training will introduce and discuss gender-specific dimensions of violent conflicts and conflict transformation as practice. The workshops will illustrate cases of best practice and the most important dos and don’ts in the area of gender and peace building.
Inhalte
- Terminology and main reasons why gender matters
- Gender-specific dimensions of violent conflicts and their different stages (different roles of women and men, construction of masculinity and femininity and their impact on the dynamics of violent conflicts, social and political power hierarchies in institutions of war and peace-making)
- Gender-specific challenges of conflict transformation for different actors and strategies to address them
- "Best practices": Dos and Don'ts in the area of gender and peacebuilding

WICHTIGE HINWEISE
The Training for Peace is part of the 9-Week Qualification Course which is attended by 8 people aiming to be certified as "Peace and Conflict Consultant".
We offer an early bird price if you register up to six weeks in advance. If you register less than two weeks beforehand we cannot arrange accomodation for you.
The Academy can not provide any scholarships itself, nor waive the training fee nor arrange funding by other organisations. Applicants who can not cover the training fee in full will not be considered!
When transfering the training fee from a non-german account, please have in mind that it might take up to three weeks until we receive the money and that there might be transfer charges to be paid by your side.
Cancellations shall be in writing only and be received 10 work days before the start of the course or event at the latest. Otherwise the AfC will charge the participant as follows:
- 10 to 3 work days before the course/event: 50% of all costs
- less than 3 work days/non-attendance without written cancellation: 100 % of all costs
