Consultancy as a Key Qualification
Basics of consultancy and the special challenges in peace work

Specialists working for the Civil Peace Service or in other related fields frequently assume the role of an “adviser” or “consultant”. It is taken for granted that their specialist knowledge and methodological skills are useful and advantageous for the local project partners. However, particular skills and a clear understanding of the role of a consultant are needed in order to provide truly effective and appropriate advice.
In this training course, participants learn about possible intervention levels for their advice. These include helping partners to clarify their own positions and situation, clear up communication difficulties or see the system as a whole in project and organisational contexts. They explore different roles and styles of consulting to find out which ones are relevant and suitable for them. Finally, they are taught about different methods and how intercultural sensitivity is needed in consultancy.

Sprachliche Anforderungen
A very good command of English is indispensable to be able to follow the course adequately and for good learning results. You have to be able to express yourself fluently and to understand detailed texts on complex subjects.

WICHTIGE HINWEISE
The Training for Peace is part of the 9-Week Qualification Course which is attended by 8 people aiming to be certified as "Peace and Conflict Consultant".
We offer an early bird price if you register up to six weeks in advance.
The Academy can not provide any scholarships itself, nor waive the training fee nor arrange funding by other organisations. Applicants who can not cover the training fee in full will not be considered!
When transfering the training fee from a non-german account, please have in mind that it might take up to three weeks until we receive the money and that there might be transfer charges to be paid by your side.
Cancellations shall be in writing only and be received 10 work days before the start of the course or event at the latest. Otherwise the AfC will charge the participant as follows:
- 10 to 3 work days before the course/event: 50% of all costs
- less than 3 work days/non-attendance without written cancellation: 100 % of all costs
If you should need a visa for Germany, please make sure to register at least six weeks before the start of the training. Since the visa application process takes quite a while, we cannot accept registrations later than this deadline.
