Making Peace Work Public
Practical public relations training for projects in the area of peace and conflict
Thu. 8. April 2010 until Fri. 9. April 2010
Interviews with journalists, an appointment with the mayor, a meeting with local colleagues, international conferences, regional conferences of your own deploying organisation - Peace and Conflict Consultants constantly have to give important presentations of their projects. However, there isn't usually much time for preparation or for the presentation itself: a radio interview, for example, rarely lasts longer than 2:30 minutes. In this Training for Peace participants will practice how to give a clear and convincing presentation of their projects and their relevance to wider peacebuilding work and policy. The course offers an overview of how to describe and present peace work and conflict transformation. Key topics covered include composing press releases and especially the skills involved in verbal public relations opportunities.
Contents
- composing a press release: presenting the relevance of a project in just a few words
- oral exercises to practice clarity and precision in short talks and presentations
- interview training: questions and answers about their project
Learning Goals
- participants will know the "Dos and Don'ts" of press releases
- participants will know about the methods and media on offer to present the relevance of their peacebuilding projects
- participants will have improved their public relations skills and techniques during interview training
