Acting with Words: Initiating and Promoting Communication
Methods of constructive communication in an intercultural context
Mon. 25. October 2010, 9.00 until Wed. 27. October 2010, 18.00
Poor communication, polarizing and aggressive communication, lack of or insufficient communication can be some of the causes of conflicts. Effective and appropriate communication can often help to prevent or contribute to constructively dealing with conflicts. This includes communicating opinions, feelings and needs without aggressions or judgments. This means not only to paraphrase a message but transform it. Just as important is active listening. The realization of both is not easy and mostly needs a lot practice and experience. The training offers methodological approaches for a constructive communication and puts these also in an intercultural context and applies it to the field of peacebuilding, mediation, and peacemaking in practice, looking at the role of communication in dealing with conflicts.
