Project Management and Impact Analysis for CPS-Projects

in cooperation with Kurve Wustrow

Mon. 15. March 2010 until Fri. 19. March 2010

What can we achieve with our project? This question arises inevitably during the course of a project. However, it should not only matter at the end of a project but much earlier, in the planning stage. How can we plan and implement our project in order to ensure that we have a positive impact? How can we monitor and evaluate our work in order to find out what kind of impacts the project has?
In recent years many approaches and instruments have been developed that offer guidance in answering these questions. Some of these tools have their strengths in analysing the positive impact. Others are focussing on tracking down unintended negative effects. Yet others are designed for a participatory approach that includes the beneficiaries and their perspective on the project and its effects.

Contents

  • Relevance of the topic: Why do we have to / want to analyse the impact of a project?
  • Why are planning, monitoring and evaluation an essential parts of impact analysis?
  • Terminology: What is the project cycle management? What are objectives, goals, indicators and impacts?
  • Impact chains: Why can I assume that we will have this impact?
  • Risks and side effects: How much harm could I do when I only want to do good?
  • Criteria for success: How does a good project look like?
  • Participation: How do I gather information and how are my findings received?
  • Limitations: What can I expect from a tool?
