From Pacification to Peacebuilding

New book by Academy Trainer Diana Francis

From Pacification to Peacebuilding - A Call to Global Transformation

Diana Francis asks if conflict transformation works and reviews developments in the field over the past twenty years. She recognises that it has helped those engulfed in violent conflict to respond constructively, but also warns that the real requirement for peace is a global rejection of militarism.

In an original and radical analysis, Francis argues that the dominant culture of power, resting on coercion and violence, must be displaced by the principles of interdependence, kindness and nonviolent solidarity.

Some Endorsements:
Diana Francis draws on the traditions of nonviolence and pacifism, but also reinterprets these in light of new situations and experience. This is a timely contribution that is inspired by the qualities of good analysis, imagination and optimism that characterise the work of this outstanding theorist and activist.
