From Pacification to Peacebuilding

Buchvorstellung der englischen Friedensaktivistin Diana Francis am 02.11.10

The Academy for Conflict Transformation presents the former President of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation and Chair of the Committee for Conflict Transformation Support in a book talk on: „From Pacification to Peacebuilding – A Call to Global Transformation“.

In her latest publication, after reviewing developments in the field over the past twenty years, she argues that conflict transformation is at odds with the world of realpolitik, being based on the interdependence model of human relationships. Although it has shown its efficacy in many situations it is all too often swept away by the prevailing system of ‘eat or be eaten’, backed by military violence. That system is closely related to the predominant global culture of masculinity, whose emblem is the warrior hero.

To have a large-scale effect on national conflicts and to end the global war of gender violence it will be necessary to transform this culture and this system. This means building the culture of interdependence and nonviolence, developing capacities for nonviolent action to confront violence and leading the way on global disarmament and the transformation of international relations. A global ‘movement of movements’ is needed for international cooperation to address the fourfold challenge of war, economic injustice, human rights violations and environmental destruction and to build genuine peace in their place.

The book talk will be held in English. Diana Francis will gladly accept comments and questions from the interested audience. Copies of her book will be on offer.

Die Buchvorstellung findet am 02. November 2010 um 20 Uhr in den Räumlichkeiten des UniClub Bonn, Konviktstr. 9 statt. Der Eintritt ist frei. Um eine kurze formlose Anmeldung unter akademie@forumzfd.de wird gebeten.
