Trainer für Dealing with the Past

A practitioner passionate about mediation, conflict transformation, and Dealing with the Past (DwP), Terry Savage divides his work between field deployments, writing, and teaching / training.

He has worked in the African Great Lakes region (with two years as Chief of Human Rights Reporting at the UN mission in Burundi), in southern Africa (in South Africa’s NGO sector and on Zimbabwe), consulted in Iraq and the Maghreb (Mauritania, Mali, and Libya) and served as Reparations Policy Advisor with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal. His current writing explores a victimological approach to truth recovery and to DwP more broadly.

With graduate degrees from the University of Cape Town and the Maxwell School of Public Affairs, Syracuse University, his PhD, with the University of Leuven, Belgium, advances a model of truth recovery for use by civil society organizations in situations where obtaining justice for gross violations of human rights is problematical.
