"Before I was forced to leave Syria and come to Germany as a refugee, I was a peace activist. I had learned a lot about non-violent resistance against dictatorship and extremism. Taking part in the course on peace and conflict work at the Academy for Conflict Transformation in 2015 was very important for my personal development. In particular, I appreciated the possibility to connect and exchange with other participants on a intercultural level. I had no such possibility back in Syria.
The course made me believe in non-violent action even more. I think that violence and war only lead to death. They will never bring change. This is why I am finishing my studies od medicine now; I want to go back to peace work for Syria as soon as possible. The Academy gave me the practical skills and tools I need."
